We Are Always There For YOU....
Now We Need YOU!!!

The Ossining Volunteer Fire Department is asking for your support by voting YES to implement a LOSAP program that recognizes what the men and women who dedicate their time unselfishly to the protection of the Village & Town of Ossining.
The Village of Ossining Board of Trustees approved a revised resolution calling for a public referendum on November 4, 2025 whether to adopt a
Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) for members of the all-volunteer Ossining Fire Department.

Below is a brief description of exactly what LOSAP is & why this is something necessary for our membership and our department.

New York State relies heavily on its volunteer fire and emergency personnel. In fact, a remarkable 94.1% of the states 1660 registered fire departments are run by volunteers making them the true backbone of our emergency response system.

According to the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY), these dedicated individuals not only safeguard our communities but also generate an estimated $4.7 billion in annual taxpayer savings. Without these volunteers, municipalities would face the prospect of hiring full-time staff potentially leading to a substantial 28.4% increase in property taxes (information provided by Firefighters Association of State of New York).

To secure the future of these vital services, a dedicated focus on volunteer recruitment and retention is essential. Length of Service Award Programs (LOSAP) plays a critical role in these efforts. The Village of Ossining with voter approval is looking to implement a LOSAP program for the dedicated men and women of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department starting January 1, 2026.

What is LOSAP? Length of Service Award Programs (LOSAP) are pension-like programs to help recruit and retain volunteer firefighters and emergency service members. Volunteers are financially awarded based upon their participation and the number of dedicated years they serve their community. The LOSAP program serves as both an incentive for recruitment and a reward for long term commitment.

The volunteers of the OFD would benefit in being able to participate in a Length of Service Award Program. As volunteer firefighter’s numbers are decreasing not only in New York, but across the country it’s now more imperative than ever to reward these individuals monetarily for their dedicated efforts in safeguarding our community.

We are asking for your support the Village Residents of Ossining on this coming Election Day (11/4/25) to voting YES to implement a LOSAP program that recognizes these men and women who dedicate their time unselfishly to the protection of our community.
