| Staying Safe on Halloween!!!
Halloween is a time for fun and spooky celebrations and activities, but it can also be a time for some truly scary fire safety hazards. As the holiday nears, take simple precautions that can help ensure the holiday remains fun and fire safe.
-Don't Be Scared, Be Prepared for Halloween Electrical Safety- Today’s Halloween decorations often have many electrical needs to keep them inflated, flashing, animated, and the like. All things considered, many front yards throughout October probably look like a spiderweb of electrical cords, introducing trip hazards that would not be well-received “tricks.” Being better prepared and safely incorporating electricity into Halloween decorations helps to make sure that no accidents take place. See some considerations to help improve electrical safety when decorating for Halloween.
Home fires caused by decorations From 2020–2024 there was an average of 835 home structure fires that began with decorations per year. These fires caused an annual average of 3 civilian fire deaths, 29 civilian fire injuries, and $18 million in direct property damage. Nearly half (47%) of these fires occurred because the decorations were too close to a heat source, such as a candle or hot equipment. Approximately one-third (33%) of these fires were started by candles. Source: NFPA Research Division
