As the dig out continues, we are still enjoying these balmy 17-25 degree temps. We’ve noticed a lot of you have been trying to do your part with keeping our community safe and digging those fire hydrants out. If we all pitch in and help out one another and the water department, the extra time necessary to dig them out in a possible emergency is eliminated. If you come across one in your neighborhood or you just have not gotten to the one on your front lawn/snow pile yet….Please Do!

We all know this storm was a lot to deal with and our Public Works team took a beating. They are beginning snow removal nightly in areas and continue to do so. We thank them for their continued efforts. With all those mounds or “mountains” of snow everywhere, we know it’s tough to park on the already congested streets without snow in town. Per OPD this morning, the Snow Emergency has been lifted but temporary no parking orders/signs are in place still. Please make sure you are not parking in these areas and possibly impeding on these snow clearing efforts.

With that being said about the snow hindering our streets, we ask you to try and also remember that travel through these now even tighter streets are still necessary. When parking, keep in mind if an emergency was to occur on the street or in the area can the fire trucks make it through the street? Our longest rig is 47 feet long (Tower Ladder 42). The others are smaller yes, but just keep that in mind till Public Works gets to all the affected areas. We will make it to where it is necessary at all costs if life is at stake, but take a few seconds and be cognitive of where you’re parking.

Now, with everyone’s favorite thing besides the snow….the cold. Pipes will freeze and we have been seeing this over the past few days. These conditions will trigger fire alarms and other issues in your residence. Please be aware and look at the Pipe Freezing Prevention Tips in this post.

Also….you’ll see a few pics of some of those beautifully dug out hydrants we came across in town. Keep up the good work Ossining!

Stay Safe & Warm All!
