| Just after 10:30pm last night, the OFD was requested to McDonald’s in the Arcadian Shopping Center for the inside odor of gas. Arriving within a minute or 2 of dispatch, it was confirmed an odor of gas was present in the front area of the store. Members were deployed to the roof to check HVAC system equipment to see if this was the issue creating the condition.
With it being apparent that an Air Handler was the culprit, Con Edison Gas Services was requested to the scene as well. The unit was confirmed the problem, it was then red tagged and taken OOS. Extreme cold, ice, & snow creates issues that can make appliances malfunction causing bigger issues.
Regardless if it’s 17 degrees or 77, the show goes on. Emergencies occur at any time and are not shy to do so in the most extreme of conditions. As we stated yesterday, do your part to avoid issues and potential situations that might escalate into bigger problems. Just envision your iPhone when it gets to hot and you get that cool down warning….(picture attached), the opposite occurs to other items and appliances in the opposite of adverse conditions.
So…again…17 or 77, we are a phone call away. The extreme cold isn't fun but it doesn't scare us from coming to help mitigate a problem and keep you safe.
